QUALIFY TO THE NEXT ANZPT EVENT @ PokerStars

The nationals capital Canberra, played host to the next stop on the Australian & New Zealand Poker Tour.

It would have to be considered a success as 181 players qualified through PokerStars, Casino Canberra satellites or paid directly into the event. The even had a maximum of 200 players.

There was some speculation that PokerStars ANZPT scheduling was probably not on the money when they announced the tournament would be scheduled during the first few weeks of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Many feared numbers would be short as many players would choose the bright lights of Vegas than Political arena of Canberra. This was not the case at all.

Being a $2,200 AUD Buy-in it made the event affordable. Scheduling during the Queens birthday long-weekend also made it easier for the working men and woman an opportunity to play without taking time off work.

In the end ANZPT got it right (again).

But to the actual tournament itself…

Jason Gray (pictured right) will always be a contender when ever he is listed in a tournament and tonight was no different. Jason had an epic heads up battle with John Maklouf that lasted almost 2 hours! His resolve was rewarded as he was victorious in winning the first ever ANZPT Title in Canberra.

The final table had a very beachy feel to it as well as 3 of the ‘Wollongong boys’ made appearances – Aaron Benton (8th), Rennie Carnvale (5th) and Adam Cameron (3rd).
